Iberia Airlines Pilots Hold First of 30 One-Day Strikes
4/10/2012Iberia Airlines pilots went on strike Monday, April 10, grounding 150 flights. The strike is part of a protest against a new low-cost carrier, Iberia Express. The pilots plan on staging 30 one-day strikes over the next several months.
The airline went to court last week to ban such strikes and to get compensation for 12 days of strikes already held by workers. Pilots say Iberia Express threatens their jobs; the airline says it’s essential to build profits. Pilots plan to strike every Monday and Friday until July.
